F&F Satin Lace Shorts - which colour suits you?

F&F Satin Lace Trim Drawstring Shorts in Black £18 - some sizes are still available, but definitely check instore.

Go for: 1) Chocolate

Let’s get the trending colour brown out of the way. At first glance, the photo on the F&F website makes these chocolate brown lace satin shorts look most appealing. Definitely go for these if you: 1) have a warm skin undertone, 2) have clothes that go with these or 3) have medium to low contrast between skin and hair/eye colour AND you don’t have a cool skin undertone.

2) Black

Which brings us to black. Funnily enough, most girlies haven’t gravitated to black this season. This would have sold out in a heartbeat two years ago. And I have noticed that wearing black against paler skin can make big legs look bigger, because of the contrast between skin colour and the black. It can also drain certain skintones, rendering an unhealthy pallor. So my suggestion is: pick black if you 1) have medium to low contrast between skin and hair/eye colour, 2) wear black well ie you have cool skin undertones or black hair/eyes. The convenience of wearing black need not be extolled, most ladies understand how easy it is to match black to other pieces of clothing.

3) Pink

This was the biggest surprise. I thought: hey, as I am pear-shaped and don’t have a pink skin undertone, pink lace trim shorts are definitely out of the question.

But F&F has done something very clever - look at the lace trim, how they have a vintage look that contrasts with the pink. It’s the creamy vintage lace that peeks out from under an oversized top that has to match one’s skin undertone. The contrast of cream lace with the pink satin also means that people who have higher contrast between hair/eyes and skin colour can get away with this beautiful shade of pink! I would only avoid this if you have a very very warm skintone.

F&F Satin Lace Trim Drawstring Shorts in Chocolate £18 SOLD OUT at the moment, but keep checking, and if you can go to a big Tesco, definitely check there as that is how I found these pairs!

4) Cream

Finally, the pair that I tried and immediately decided they were not for me. Yet on social media EVERYWHERE it’s the cream ones that are going viral. And no wonder for those ladies - those slim, leggy ladies who can easily fit into their knee-high boots and get away with wearing a light-coloured bottom and dark-coloured top without looking like they were flashing their bare bottoms. If this is you, by all means go for the cream pair.

But if you are like me and have thicker trunks for legs, or a fleshier bottom, I would steer clear of these. The only exception is if you have an equally proportioned upper body ie you are an hourglass with shapely legs. But even so, wearing cream lace shorts look most like wearing your undies out of the house!
